Writing Online: Using Blogs as an
Alternative Writing Activity
in Tertiary ESL Classes
The aim of this article
is to investigate the effectiveness of blog as an alternative activity in tertiary
writing classes. The participants of this research were 36 students of
‘Sophomore College students enrolled in academic writing classes’ who voluntarily
participated in this research. Multiply was decided as a platform after
considering the advantages and practicalities. After choosing the platform,
project mechanics was announced to the participants. They had to upload blogs
at least once a week which would be commented by another bloggers. All of the
activity was monitored and analyzed by the researcher. Based on the data, it
can be seen that blog can be used as an alternative activity in writing class
‘would motivated learners to view writing as a mean of expressing meaning and
not merely as a requirement in language classes’.

Using
Hermeneutic Multi – ease Study to Investigate L2 Students’ Academic Writing
Strategies
The objective of this
research is to investigate Chinese students writing strategies in English as
second language using Hermeneutic approach. This research used qualitative
interpretive paradigm. The data were taken from ‘three Chinese postgraduate
students and reports on writing strategies used while writing academic paper’
by using preliminary questionnaire, semi-structure interview, retrospective
post-writing discussion, and document analysis. Hermeneutic analysis combined
with multi-case study was used as method of analyzing the data. The finding
shows that in investigating writing strategies used by Chinese students
appropriately using hermeneutic multi-case study.

in Writing for Publication: Perspectives of Chinese Science Postdoctoral
Researchers in America
The objectives of this article was to find out the ‘motives and artifacts
mediate the postdoctoral researchers’ scholarly writing for publication’ and
the way ‘the postdoctoral researchers mediate and interact with others within
the scholarly writing community si as to achieve their publictation goals’.
This research used qualitative approach. The participants of this research were
three Chinese science postdoctoral researchers in America. The data had been
obtained from interview which then transcribed into English to make it easier
to analize. The finding shows that the participants in order to achieve their
goal comply with the publication norms ‘mediate with a diversity of cultural
artifacts, socialize with different people from academic and aditoeial
communities and fullfil their dual
social roles’.
